The weight of a Diamond is measured in Carats. One carat is divided into 100 parts called "points" similar to pennies in a dollar. For example 1 dollar is broken down into 100 pennies, similar to how a one carat would equal 100 points, written as 1.00 ct.
Furthermore, 1 carat is equal to 0.2 grams. The value of two diamonds of the same weight can vary greatly depending on the color, clarity and especially the cut.
A Larger carat weight diamond does not always mean a higher value. A diamond cut with an enlarged table (face) and girdle might weigh much more than another diamond, but at the cost of the diamond's ability to reflect light. This can reduce the value of the diamond as much as 40% just in the cutting alone. While you might not see the cut with the naked eye, be sure to look for the sparkle
